ROAR - Reach Out & Advocate for Respect

ROAR (Reach Out & Advocate for Respect)

Our Mission:

To bring about progressive social change in South Carolina by encouraging the rise of a new generation for young LGBT leaders of color.  In doing so, we seek to develop a sense of community among LGBT persons of color through providing opportunities for cultural expression, civic engagement, and political involvement.

Our Vision:

We envision a South Carolina in which young LGBT persons of color can live to their fullest physical, emotional, social, and spiritual potential. We strive to cultivate a community of young people who are empowered to become advocates for their generation and organize to effect social change.

Objectives:

  1. To demand and gain greater human Respect and thus greater “power” for LGBT persons of color and our allies;
  2. To Reach Out so to listen to and encourage dialogue within LGBT communities of color, as well as harness the potential of our networks;
  3. To Advocate for our community’s unmet needs and project the many positive images that represent LBGT persons of color;
  4. To Reform the state of South Carolina to become a place where the basic dignity and human rights of all persons- regardless of race, gender, class, sexual orientation, religious conviction, physical ability, or veteran status- are protected by law and enforced by shared norms and values;
